Twitter embeds are now working. Just paste a link to a tweet and it will display like this:

We now have a section for competitions. Don't forget to check out the new 2017 Endurance Tipping comp thanks to Richo & KSM86, and keep an eye out for more:

www.shakedownracing.com.au/index.php/forum/competitions

Now to answer some suggestions from the thread:

StueyB83 wrote: I guess you can store all my tech ramblings in a dedicated technical sub-section?

Section created: www.shakedownracing.com.au/index.php/forum/tech-talk

What are peoples thoughts on using the Tech Talk section? Leave it open so anyone can post topics / link articles? Or curate it to keep it at the current level of StueyB83 Quality™?

Miguel wrote: Less subfora or preferably none in the sports car section (I'm pretty sure that's the reason why many people missed Jono's Q&A, can make the Q&As stick on top).

I think there's merit in keeping Aus & International separate, especially looking long term. (It's a real bitch if you merge them, then want to split them out again a year later.) Possibly valid point about some topics being lost in the mix though. Let's keep the discussion going on this one.

jdyort wrote: The cutting should be members only. No guests.

I have no strong feelings here. Member's only sections are cool, on the other hand you can miss out on some traffic if things are locked away (like, if someone wanted to link a thread on social media). Anyone else want to chime in?

Ryan Lee wrote: could we get a button at the bottom of each page that returned you to the top of the page?

There are a few things we can't do through the site admin panel right now, and editing in little things like this is is one of them. But noted, and it will come.

A bit more discussion on this section.

I must admit I was here for several months before I realised there were topics directly under the "Sportscar & GT Racing" category, and not just in the three subcategories. So in total there are four areas for discussion in there, which could make it easy for people to miss things.

One approach might be to bring them all out under the main category. So when you look at the forum index, you might see something like:

  • Announcements
  • Sportscar & GT Racing - General Chat
  • Sportscar & GT Racing - Australasian Events
  • Sportscar & GT Racing - International Events
  • Q & A (drivers, owners etc)
  • Photo Gallery
  • Tech Talk
  • ..etc

Any thoughts?

Thanks Pierre!

BTW I am of the opinion that the Tech section should be open to anyone - as the thread should be open to questions just as much as it is about articles - which I also think anyone should feel entitled to publish about.

Agreed. I found it strange you could post not in a sub section.

What's this "Administrator" title under Pierre's name... Shouldn't it be "Maverick's whipping boy"? :P

& also - Sorry about posting all my tech in the SC & GT area - Guilty.

At top right there is a little "private messages" tab. When a new message comes in there is a message underneath it saying just that.
Just sent you a PM to see if it works ...
Or did you mean send you an email when a new PM arrives?

Given this is a sportscar forum/GT specific forum, is that detail needed in the titles of various boards?

Announcements
General Chat
Australasian Events
International Events
etc
etc

It is. But if the first one is just called General, its purpose vs The Cutting might be confusing to newbies.

Maybe:

I'm not sure if it has already been brought up, but it would be nice to have an "agree" button next to the "thank you
one. Seeing as there is a large distance between the meaning of the two. Sometimes i'll find myself not giving an acknowledgement to a comment on the basis that saying thank you just doesn't compute. Or, do we all just see "thank you" as an agreement to a statement?

Cheers mate, a "like" button is on its way and an "agree" button sounds like a good idea.

Still wish to propose a members only section Shakedown Administrator gods...

This would be used for:
- discussions which we did not want lifted and posted on other forums or websites
- personal discussions on things like hobbies
- meet ups
- congrats for weddings, births and other personal milestones

Some of the current offtopic discussions would fall into this section. Actually even this thread would.

That's a good idea Troy. Maybe a minimum amount of posts would be required to see such a section. If you're actively posting on the forum it shouldn't be a problem, more so aimed at those who join and don't post.

I notice that quite a few of us have blogs, websites and other photo sharing sites, so maybe a thread for us to post links to our stuff might be good? Just a thought.
