I read one of his crime books a few weeks ago and enjoyed that more than his Supercar "reporting".

Bathurst does seem to be the only place that hasn't had issues with the 18 inch tyres since they were introduced.

The Saturday race was a bloody good one with some controlled and uncontrolled aggression.
At this point we have the great Ford v Holden rivalry back, it's super competitive and an open Championship.
The leniency of the McLaughlin penalty is baffling and I think we'll be seeing a lot more of this sort of racing between Penske and T8 before the season's over.

The overlap rule on the restart was BS. Scotty was leading but was in the outside position and being bumped wide by SVG.

Why wasn't Scotty as the lead car on the inside position?

And did SVG get a penalty for the deliberate bumps to push him wide?

Not very often that we get a couple of cracking races on the same weekend, but they were very enjoyable, even though there was no one there to watch it.
Now comes the laughable part of the Championship where a co-driver can determine the Championship winner.

Last year on the Friday, fans were allowed to sit in the grandstand with a general ticket as the place was empty.
This year IMO the place would have been a ghost town again on the Friday if it wasn't for a hoard of school kids and in their wisdom you weren't allowed to sit in the stand with a general ticket.
At no stage did i see any more than 50 people sitting in the grandstand.
Over the top, a total lack of respect for the fans and the tradition continues in the way VASC is looked at.
Special mention to the food van that was charging $12 for a kebab. I wanted a kebab, not the van.

Spot on and as I said somewhere else, nobody knows nor cares anymore about VASC's during their FTATV blackout. They will gain a bit more interest when the series gets back on live FTA TV, and when Bathurst rolls around again, but the damage has been done over the last few years with the Fox TV deal. They grabbed the $ when it suited them for the short term gain, but long term, the teams have been sold a shit sandwich. Circuit racing, is suffering big time around the world with dropping attendances, in all but the major categories and Australia, with our small population base is not delivering anywhere near the crowds the sport had 30 years ago. Remember the huge crowds that turned up at Oran Park and Amaroo, back in the 70's & 80's. I can remember going to Lakeside and Surfers Paradise with huge crowds in attendance. They'd kill for something like that these days.
Unfortunately, when (not if) Fox get sick of it, Supercars ain't gonna be something that is going to attract the big dollars they think they are going to get, on their next TV contract. As he said in his article, there's a lot more competition on the sporting landscape nowadays.
They keep banging on with their BS attendance figures and TV ratings, but looking at the Townsville crowd (or lack of) and the lousy attendance at Eastern Creek, they better have a rabbit to pull out of their hat soon.

"At the end of the day, endurance racing is the ultimate test for man and machine and that hasn’t changed a bit in the last 50 years" - Chris Amon

Maybe they need to bring back Cochrane?

I think it's already too late, even if they went back to all races live on FTA I still couldn't really care less.

Just had a quick look at ticket pricing for the 1000.....

$115 for JUST SUNDAY with NO paddock pass what a utter f*#@ing joke for just $15 more ill be able to purchase my Newy 500 tickets thats 3 days and paddock access or my 12 Hour ticket cost me $62 for the 3 days and access all area's pretty much.

People say im crazy to live here and not go to the "Great Race" but with those prices it makes it a much more attractive idea to stay home and watch it on the big screen, crack some decent cans none of that cooper's mid crap and have a BBQ with Nardulas and who know's.... If i get a few pepsi's into him might be able to get his shirt off Haha

There will be a bigger issue for Supercars if 2018 is Lowndes' last year as a full time driver.

Just look at NASCAR, retirements from the biggest names over the last handful of years with Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Dale Jr at the end of this year.

That seems ridiculously high, as the 4 days is only about $130 with no paddock.

This is an interesting article and has parallels with VASC.

Too much focus on the value of their TV deals is driving away fans, not just from motorsport, but NRL as well.

www.abc.net.au/news/2017-08-25/richard-h...-footy-codes/8839466

Once the fans are gone and those TV deals no longer on the table, what then? Collapse!
